Little more than a week ago, interior designer Francesca Rowan-Plowden had an idea that has since snowballed into a huge movement to thank NHS frontline heroes. Francesca began talking to her design world contacts about giving back to these key workers by having people nominate NHS staff for a post-Covid free room makeover in a charity movement named ‘Design Havens for Heroes’. In a very short space of time, many interior designers have joined forces with her, as well as some of their top suppliers.
The concept is simple: nominate an NHS worker who deserves thanks for their untiring dedication, donate to the cause via the PayPal link and once it’s safe to do so, an interior designer will completely redesign and decorate a room of their choosing. Suppliers including Colefax & Fowler, Little Greene and Edward Bulmer Paints, Tom Dixon, Susan Deliss and Sofa.com have all volunteered their wares for the cause and the list is growing daily.
So too is the list of interior designers who have signed up to donate their services, including Top 100 designer Kate Guinness, among many other talented names with a range of styles. Every single person involved is giving their time and products for free, to say thank you to NHS staff who are tirelessly working in the face of challenging times. A website will soon launch for Design Haven for Heroes, but for now, you can nominate a NHS worker via the Instagram account and DM them if you would like to volunteer your services.
